Veteran Recognition and Legislative Brunch

Honoring area veterans who served this nation, I will be hosting a Veterans Recognition and Legislative Brunch on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Black Diamond American Legion, Post 395, 386 Wyoming Ave., Kingston.

The guest speaker for the event will be Col. Patrick Monahan, commander of the 166th Regiment (Regional Training Institute) of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap. He served overseas in Bosnia Herzegovina and during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Spartan Shield.

Advance reservations are required and seating is limited. Reservations can be made by calling Kaufer’s district office at 570-283-1001 or going online to The deadline to register for the event is Friday, Sept. 13.

Kaufer said the recognition event builds on the American Legion’s recent success in advocating for passage of the federal Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service (LEGION) Act, which extends eligibility criteria for membership in the American Legion. Veterans who served between April 6, 1917, and Nov. 11, 1918, or at any time since Dec. 7, 1941, are now eligible.
